Why Silver Jewelry is Fast Becoming a Better Investment Than Gold Jewelry

The historic price ratio of silver to gold shows that about 10 ounces of silver would buy one ounce of gold, a 10:1 ratio. Recently, the ratio is about a 50:1 ratio (with silver at $20/oz., and gold at $1000/oz.) As the silver to gold ratio returns to historic values, from 50:1 to 10:1, you may make over 5 times more money investing in silver, than gold!

More than all of the silver produced by the mines each year is consumed by industry, which leaves little to no room for substantial investment demand. A marginal increase in investment demand will drive prices sky high.

Most silver is produced as a by-product of mining gold, copper, zinc, or lead. Higher silver prices might not substantially increase the amount of silver mined each year. Consider, in 1980, when silver prices went up to $50/oz., less silver was mined than in 1979.

So watts this mean to the jewelry sector ?.Simple a huge increase in the cost of silver jewelry and with that will come a bigger demand by the general public.

Now this is were it gets tricky ,if you are a jewelry retail shop or a customer you have to be sure that the silver your selling or the silver jewelry item your buying is of the highest standard,98%fine silver is the best.It is quickly becoming the new fashion standard.

At present 90% of all silver is made to a standard 925%Sterling silver, which means it has a small amount of impurities added ,However for an investment this just isn't good enough .and it gets worse ,if you do buying trips for silver from lets say to Asian countries, the majority of silver in street stalls would not pass the assay test 925 that's because the manufacturer has added large amounts of copper or bronze with the silver in order to be able to sell it cheap.

There are no tricks to buying silver ,firstly you must establish a good customer relationship with a reputable manufacture or wholesaler.

Secondly he should be happy to provide documentation of were the raw silver comes from with a assay test certificate.

Thirdly try and buy silver that's Monogrammed,Customers love having designer name brands such as KDL,and you will find that if a manufacturer is name stamping his silver jewelry he has a reputation to protect.

So to sum things up ,Yes invest in silver jewelry ,but only in 98%pure silver ,wear it ,use it and wait for the price increase then you truly have a valuable asset ,you can even have it melted down and re sell the silver .Its a win win over gold .Even if gold increases in price it will not match the percentage profit that silver is now starting to return.

Turn Your Online Jewelry Store Into a Business Success

As an active jewelry designer who attends meetings and workshops all the time, I hear a lot of jewelry business owners complaining that their online stores are not a success at all. I used my web design experience and a lot of research in the domain to gather a few hands-on tips for you to use and turn your online jewelry store into a business success.

  1. Photos that sell the product – The most important thing you have to remember when you have an online jewelry store is that your customer will not be able to feel your jewelry or try it on to see what it looks like. Therefore, clear photos that show as much detail as possible are very important because, afterall, the photo sells the product. Multiple photos for each item are very helpful to show your potential customer all the details. If you have a necklace, try to have at least one photo on a stand, so they can see what it will look like around their neck. If your necklace has a pendant, take an up-close photo of that alone, so you can show all the details of the stones used. When taking photos of jewelry it is crucial that you do that in daytime, without flash. This approach will show the true colors of the stones used without unnecessary reflections.

  2. Earrings
    Bracelets
    Chains
    Necklaces

  3. Search-friendly sites – If you have the possibility to add a search function on your site, please do so. People don’t always know the names of the stones they are looking for and a search functionality will give them the possibility to look for pieces that have a certain color for instance. The idea here is to create the easiest way for your clients to find what they want. When somebody looks for a pearl bracelet, it will be much easier to type that in the search box and hit “Go”, than look through your entire bracelets category to find what they want. Having a search function on your website will be very helpful to your customers but it will certainly add a little more work for you. When you add a product to your store you will have to always remember to tag it with terms that other people might be searching for.

  4. Detailed information – Product descriptions are very important as well when it comes to online jewelry stores. After your client sees the photos, they will want to know what was used to make that piece of jewelry. Try to give as many details as possible about the materials and techniques used as well as sizes. The overall size of the necklace is important, but also include the size of the pendant if you have one, as photos don’t always show the true ratio of the pendant. If you are a custom jewelry designer, I found that people are always interested to find out what your inspiration was. Share that with your visitors and raise their interest in your products.

  5. One size doesn’t always fit all – Since you are selling items that people wear, remember that “One size fits all” doesn’t always apply. Create your jewelry at standard sizes, but always offer people the opportunity to order a smaller or larger item. This way you will increase your clientele.

  6. The price is right – Last but not least, price your jewelry pieces right. As there is a significantly large number of online jewelry stores, you have to be competitive, but at the same time respectful of your work and the materials you use. The art of pricing is probably one of the most difficult, and there is no exact formula or how-to. Using your best judgement and a lot of research in the market area that you are trying to reach, you can find the formula for your prices.

Alexandrite Gemstone Jewelry, Myth & Symbolism

Although relatively young compared to other gemstones, alexandrite is not at a loss for history, myth and symbolism with which to surround itself. In the late 19th century, the Russian writer Nikolai Semyonovich Lesov wrote a novella, “Alexandrite: Mysterious Interpretation of a True Fact”, wherein alexandrite is defined as being 'prophetic'. In his book “The Key to the Grand Mysteries”, the French Victorian author and magician Eliphas Levi referred to alexandrite as a mystical gem that clears and strengthens the blood vessels.

In a list of acceptable birthstones drawn up in 1912 by the American National Association of Jewelers, the alexandrite was among those named. In 1952 the Jewelers Association, The Retail Jewelers Association, and the American Gemological Society approved a variation of this list. In it, alexandrite was designated as an alternative to pearl as a birthstone for June. Interestingly, in its native Russia, alexandrite is associated with August. In addition, alexandrite was deemed appropriate to celebrate a 55th wedding anniversary – as well as the 35th and 45th, which dates it would share with the emerald. Wednesday became alexandrite’s day in general, but especially so in the case of the extremely rare cats eye alexandrite.

Through the years it has been a common practice by jewelers associations whereby gemstones that are commonly available are added to “official” lists. It should be noted, however, that the term ‘common’ is rarely used in even the same vicinity as alexandrite.

It is traditionally accepted that alexandrite represents the rational world and the quality of mental clarity. However, the duality of its color just as traditionally represents the duality of characteristics associated with this special gem. Green is the color of revival, hope, prosperity, rest, peace, calm, and fertility. The red of alexandrite connotes energy, activity, self-expression, power, aggression and passion. It would seem that the combination that exists in alexandrite reflects the duality of human nature as exemplified by love and jealousy existing side-by-side or even in the very same place. The daytime color of alexandrite equates to luck and good fortune, while its nighttime appearance is more closely associated with love.

Many think that alexandrite speaks to a person’s ability to be aware of the interconnection of all things and the rejuvenation and realization of self. Certainly it is significant that the traits of alexandrite can be modified and interpreted, depending on how they apply to different eras and cultures – as well as individuals. Without a doubt, the eternally changing colors of alexandrite endow it with a universal appeal and attractiveness. With these imperial colors of another time, the tsarstone continues to fascinate and spur the creativity as well as the romance of today. The beauty and rarity of alexandrite will continue to inspire the imagination of future generations.
